ABOUT IDF

The Immune Deficiency Foundation (IDF) was founded in 1980 by one woman with a newly diagnosed (and chronically ill) child in search of answers. Today, IDF is the primary source for patients to find those answers.

We offer support to individuals recently diagnosed, long-term sufferers, and those who suspect they may have PI. While PI cannot be cured, there are life-saving treatments available that can enhance the quality of life for those affected by these rare conditions. Our programs aim to connect, engage, and empower families, helping them live longer, stronger, and healthier lives.

There are over 450 types of PI, impacting around 500,000 people in the United States. Unfortunately, it takes an average of 9-15 years to receive a diagnosis. IDF programs strive to achieve early and accurate diagnoses, appropriate treatments, and improved quality of life for all individuals.

• Approximately 9 million Americans are immunocompromised.
• Approximately 30 million Americans have a rare disease.
• 70% - 90% of those with a PI don't even know they have one.
• Some PI diagnoses include common variable immune deficiency (CVID), severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID), CGD, HLH, Hyper IgE syndrome, IgA deficiency, specific antibody deficiency, and XLA.
